Job description
An established health and social care provider based in Birmingham is looking for an organised HR Assistant to support a workforce of over 400 people across the Midlands. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity within a friendly and busy people team.
You will be the first point of contact for day-to-day HR queries, taking ownership of onboarding, employee records and compliance administration. Working closely with the HR Manager, you will gain broad exposure to the full employee lifecycle including recruitment, employee relations, absence management and policy work.

Key responsibilities
Act as the first point of contact for employee and manager HR queries, escalating complex cases appropriately.
Coordinate the full onboarding process including offer letters, contracts, right to work checks and DBS clearance.
Maintain accurate, compliant employee records within the HR information system.
Prepare HR documentation including variation letters, references and probation paperwork.
Support absence management by tracking sickness, holiday and return-to-work meetings.
Take notes at employee relations meetings and maintain confidential case files.
Produce monthly HR reports on headcount, turnover, absence and training compliance.
Support recruitment activity including advert posting, shortlisting and interview scheduling.
Monitor mandatory training and certification renewals across all sites.
Assist with payroll data collection and liaise with the finance team on changes.
Help review and update HR policies in line with current UK employment legislation.
Support wellbeing and engagement initiatives across the organisation.
What we're looking for
Previous experience in an HR administration or busy administrative role.
CIPD Level 3 (or working towards it) is desirable but not essential.
Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel and Outlook.
Confident handling confidential information with complete discretion.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Strong organisational skills and a high level of accuracy.
Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
A calm, approachable manner when dealing with sensitive matters.
Awareness of UK employment law basics and safer recruitment practice.
Full training and support provided on internal systems and processes.

Salary of £27,500 – £29,000 per annum depending on experience.
